Jane’s Carousel
Jane’s Carousel consists of two unique structures: the carousel itself and a square glass-walled building that surrounds it. The detailed, authentic carousel has been entertaining kids in New York since 1922, and the minimalist, transparent cover designed by the Jean Nouvel atelier is from 2011.
The waterfront location of this Brooklyn carrousel further enhances the structure’s special effect. Not to even mention the beauty of it all when you’re visiting at night, when they illuminate the walls creating a light show you can see from across the East River and its Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges. Planning to propose? This location definitely is romantic!

Why is it called Jane’s Carousel?
Jane’s Carousel is named after its saviour. The wooden carousel was bought in 1984 by Jane Walentas and her husband David in poor condition. Jane led the restoration from her studio in DUMBO and spent 27 years hand-scraping old paint, repairing the carpentry and making sure it was brought back to its original state. Once she was done, Jane gifted the carousel to her beloved Brooklyn Bridge Park for everyone to enjoy.
