PATH between New Jersey and Manhattan
The PATH rail system runs from New Jersey to the heart of Manhattan. When travelling from New Jersey to Manhattan or back you can take the PATH for an efficient and comfortable ride. There are two PATH routes, with several stops in New York and New Jersey. It’s a good way of transportation when you need to travel from Manhattan to Hoboken, Downtown Jersey City or Newark Train station.

Tickets for PATH
A PATH single ride costs US$2.75. If you have a New York MetroCard (the same card that you use for the subway in Manhattan) with credit, you can use the PATH system. If you don’t have a MetroCard, you can purchase a MetroCard at any PATH or New York City Transit vending machine. MetroCards with Pay-Per-Ride value can be used as payment for multiple people (up to 4) in the PATH.
There are also multiple PATH card options, like passes for a certain number of rides or for 7-day unlimited travel, which can save you money if you intend to use the PATH often during your stay. Children under 5 years of age travel for free.
Note: PATH does not accept the Unlimited MetroCard
Changing from PATH to subway
The MetroCard you used for the PATH train can also be used for the New York subway. If you use the PATH first and then change to the subway, this will be calculated as two separate rides. So you’ll have to check out from the PATH and check in again at the subway. The same goes for first using the subway and then changing to the PATH.
New Jersey Transit
You can also travel from Manhattan to New Jersey with New Jersey Transit, the public transportation network of trains and buses in the state of New Jersey. With NJ Transit you can for example travel from Manhattan to Newark International Airport or Philadelphia. However, PATH is more convenient, so for routes where you can choose between both options, I recommend you to take the PATH train.
