Russian Tea Room New York

The Russian Tea Room in New York is a worthwhile addition to your trip. Escape the bustle of the modern Big Apple and be transported back to the 1920’s. When liquor was illegal so tea was served instead. There was class, fine dining and New York was roaring.

History and Theatre

The Russian Tea Room is the place to be for location, history and art. Proudly displaying a number of artworks by Picasso and Matisse. In addition, it was Madonna’s first New York workplace. Located in Midtown, the Russian Tea Room is right next to the Carnegie Hall and close to Lincoln Center. A lot of the interior dates back to the original 1927 building, though extensive renovations have kept it looking its best. You really get an impression of what it would have been like during Prohibition (although now they do sell Alcohol). This 90+ year old institution is a magnet for poets, businessmen, actors and politicians alike and is also a perfect place for a romantic dinner.

Fine Dining at the Russian Tea Room

Dinner at the Russian Tea Room in New York is a night out in itself. Not to mention if you have tickets for ballet or opera at the nearby Lincoln Center. Then the staff will be more that happy to seat you for a ‘Pre-theatre’ arrangement. The dinner includes a three-course menu. Be sure to also try out the traditional 1920’s tea drinking ritual! By booking dinner at the Russian Tea Room in advance here, you can save a lot on the standard prices. Drinks are excluded; expect the typical New York price of US$16 for a glass of wine.

Eric’s Tip: You should take your  time to enjoy the Russian Tea Room. I highly recommend the Boeuf à la Stroganoff and a glass of wine to go with it. Everything about this restaurant is focused on ensuring a unique overall experience, rather than just another dinner. The music, the staff, the food and of course the tea are all very carefully considered. Note: A tip is not included in these prices and 15% should be included in the payment after dinner.
