Beauty Salons in New York

Beauty Salons in New York

There are many beauty salons in New York. There are hairdressers, manicure- and pedicure salons and day spas. New Yorkers love to take good care of themselves and have many beauty parlours to choose from, but which ones are the best?  I have made a selection (with the help of my wife, an expert New Yorker) of the five best beauty salons in New York. Are you happy with your experience? Don’t forget to tip!

Getting Pampered at one of the Beauty Salons in New York

Choosing the right place can be a challenge but when you have it’s well worth it. Tired after doing the Sex and the City Hotspots Tour? Finish your day relaxing at a spa with your mom or girlfriends, or get your hair done for a night out in town.

1. Spa Belles

Spa Belles is the best place to get ‘manis and pedis’ in New York. This is the place to go to if you want your nails to look perfect for a special occasion. They also offer other services such as waxing, oxygen therapy, massages and facials to name a few. Very good service at a good price. Manicures start at $15 and pedicures at $35.

2. Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden

If you want to experience the classy life of a New York woman, Red Door Spa is the beauty salon of your choice. This spa is pure class and oozes allure. You will feel like a queen from the moment you enter, to the moment you leave. The wealthy New Yorkers are regulars here and for a good reason: you’ll be surrounded by true professionals. I particularly recommend the massages, especially the Red Door Signature Massage. This massage includes essence of shea butter, acupressure and foot reflexology to create a perfect harmony between body and mind. This head to toe 80-minute massage is about $200.

3. Scott J Aveda

If you need some pampering for your hair, go to Scott J Aveda salon. The skilled professionals are trained according to the Aveda methods and use its products. When you leave the salon your hair will look shiny and beautiful. They have different stylists (junior to senior) who all have different rates. All services include consultation, shampoo and conditioner and a massage on your scalp, neck and shoulders. On top of that, you can choose between a makeup touch-up or a hand treatment.

4. Metamorphosis Day Spa

Metamorphosis Day Spa is a favourite among New Yorkers. Their online booking system is quite convenient, and many people have their favourite masseuse. Metamorphosis Day Spa has everything you need to make you feel brand new. From massages, facial treatments and spa packages, to wax and hand treatments. This place offers services suited to everyone’s liking.

5. The DryBar

If you’re looking for a place to get a blowout, I recommend to go to The DryBar. Blowout is their specialty. No colouring, highlights or haircuts, it’s all about styling. You can choose your favourite blowout from their ‘menu’. They’ve got dozens of options to choose from: The Manhattan (straight styles), The Cosmo (luscious waves) or The Uptini (up-dos) for example. They even have a look book for children under 10, called Shirley Temple. After a visit, your hair will look perfect for an evening out in the city. A wash and blowout is about $40.

Eric’s Tip: There are many beauty salons in New York and often you can just walk-in to have a manicure or a pedicure. Prices vary but what does not change is tipping. New Yorkers always tip in the beauty salon. Read more about tipping in New York here.
