A car rental in New York is a great way to explore the New York state. Renting a car usually takes place at the JFK or Newark airport. I personally recommend renting a car before or after your visit to New York City, so you don’t have the car in the city. Traffic in Manhattan is very busy and for a whole day of parking in the parking garage you will easily pay $50 to $70. Therefore, it is more convenient to use public transportation during your stay.

You can save a lot by renting just outside of the city. Even so, the rental prices there are around 30% higher than elsewhere in the United States.
Car rental at JFK Airport
If you are planning to rent a car in New York and you arrive at JFK Airport, you can pick up your car right here. To get to the car rental companies you need to take the JFK AirTrain to Federal Circle. Both the Howard Beach and Jamaica lines stop here. After you exit the AirTrain you can either walk to your rental company or take the corresponding shuttle bus.
