2024 NBA Playoffs - current status
- New York Knicks: Team has a chance to make the playoffs
- Brooklyn Nets: Team has a chance to make the playoffs
The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets play in the regular basketball season from October to April. Both teams play in the Eastern Conference (Eastern North America). At the end of the season, eight teams from the Eastern Conference and eight teams from the Western Conference (Western North America) meet in the playoffs to compete for the championship.
The top six teams from both Conferences advance directly to the playoffs. The teams ranked 7 to 10 in both Conferences will compete for the final spots during a postseason play-in tournament, and may also advance to the playoffs. As a result, 16 teams will play each other in the NBA playoffs.
The winner of the NBA playoffs will be determined by a best-of-seven series.
In short: The first team to win 4 games advances to the next round. The losing team is out of the NBA playoffs. A maximum of 7 games will be played per round.
There are at least four matches, which means that each team plays a minimum of two games at home. The team that wins four games continues to the next round.
When a team has only won one, two, or three games, more games will be played – up to a maximum of seven; hence the term “best-of-seven”. A fifth, sixth, or even seventh match is played until one team has won four games.
The NBA Finals are between the remaining two teams and take place in late May and early June to determine the league winner. The best-of-seven format is also used for the finals. The winner will go home with the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy!
