Origins of Koreatown in New York

In the late 1980s, a Korean bookstore and several restaurants opened on 32nd Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Their success attracted more Korean businesses, and tourists visiting the surrounding attractions began to learn of their existence. As a result, the area grew and grew until it became how we know it today.

The street where it all started is now called Korea Way, and is filled with restaurants, karaoke bars and other shops. You can combine exploring K-Town with a visit to the Empire State Building, which is just a block away from the neighbourhood. The Hop on Hop off bus also makes a stop here.
