Koreatown in New York

Koreatown in New York is a small but bustling neighbourhood in the heart of Manhattan. This Korean neighbourhood, also nicknamed K-Town, runs from Fifth Avenue to Broadway and from 31st Street to 33rd Street. It is known for its many restaurants, bars and places to do karaoke. You can explore Koreatown in NYC when you visit Midtown Manhattan or go there for a fun night out.

Origins of Koreatown in New York

In the late 1980s, a Korean bookstore and several restaurants opened on 32nd Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Their success attracted more Korean businesses, and tourists visiting the surrounding attractions began to learn of their existence. As a result, the area grew and grew until it became how we know it today.

The street where it all started is now called Korea Way, and is filled with restaurants, karaoke bars and other shops. You can combine exploring K-Town with a visit to the Empire State Building, which is just a block away from the neighbourhood. The Hop on Hop off bus also makes a stop here.

You can get everything here from sushi and vegan ramen to Korean BBQ and all kinds of bubble tea.

If you are in Koreatown and looking for a slightly more upscale restaurant, I highly recommend GAONNURI. This restaurant is located on the 39th floor, giving you a great view of the city. When it’s dark, you will be surrounded by the illuminated buildings of Midtown Manhattan.
